Have you tried it with another lens?

Err without a lens too?

I get the err message with whatever lens I try. Once I release the shutter the err goes away but comes back after I power off and power back up.
Took it to a camera store, they reattached the lens and it restarted without the err message. however later at home with the lens still on upon power up i still had the err message. |

I had this problem with both my D200 and D200 with an older Nikkor 50MM f1.4. When I locked the Apeture ring to the orange "auto" dot the error went away. Since I was in shutter priority mode it wouldn't allow to fix the f-step and to tell the truth, I wasn't trying to, I just didn't pay close enough attention to the lens. It's a shot in the dark but maybe it's the same thing?

I'd be looking at the lens contacts on the camera body. Actually, they're called CPU contacts, because they allow the CPU in the lens to talk to the CPU in the body and visa-versa.

The err message showed up after the two button reset. Before there was no issue. I will look into to cleaning the contacts, is there a preferred method---safest method?
The error message is there when I turn it turn it on and goes away after i press the shutter however if I turn it back of and on the err returns. Or if there is a long pause between photos. |

I've been living with my little problem for way too long to the point where it has progressed to reverting to the ERR message between shots. So before I take my next shot I have to press the shutter in order for everything to work. So i pretty much fire off a junk shot between each intentional composed and correctly exposed shot. This has to go back to Nikon. How long does it take for a repair?
