I have had the D3000 for about a month now (my first step up from the point & shoot world) I have a couple of questions to ask though:
1) I purchased a floral lens hood and Im not sure how it needs to be set up (long petals / short petals etc) 2) A lso dont know if it makes sense for the camera since I read somewhere that a lens that rotates on AF should not be used in tandem with a petal lens hood. Any information on this would help. 3) Would it benefit me to use a polarized filter or can I just use a regular UV filter? Sara- congratulations on the new camera!! I am still as excited as a baby with mine and have discovered the wonderful world of images created rather than made with it. The best advise I received from a photographer friend was this - " Dont worry about the techniques and the technicalities.. go out and take a lot of photographs and have fun!" |

1: It should only screw on one way, usually with the longer petals on the top and bottom, shorter ones on the side. 2: Most lenses dont rotate on AF anymore, and when they do they dont usually have petal hoods. What lens are you referring to? 3: A polarizer filter has its uses, but I would never use it for every day use. Its an effects filter, not a simple protective filter. |

Also forgot to add that the petal hood was a separate purchase.. not one of the in the box deals. |

Yep.
Not sure if they will keep the D60 (they sold the D40 for a while even if the D60 was out) for a long time but some vendors are even asking more for the D60 than the D3000. Bring us some pictures !

I believe that the 18-55mm kit lenses for both Nikon and Canon have front elements that rotate -- it's a way to make the lens less expensive.
Is there a reason that you bought the petal hood? I believe it comes with a hood in the box, which is designed to work with the lens.
