The petal hood should work fine, but it's very very funny that you didn't get the bag, etc. included.

I have owned and used the 55-200 VR. I like it a lot and recommend it -- light, decent quality, good range. It's a bit telephoto at the 55 end for general use, but if you want a reasonably priced telephoto, go for it.
