Question Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX ED VR Nikkor Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens for Niko

Looking to purchas a refurbished one if possible.

Would it benefit me to trade in or sell my d40 for a d60, 80, or 90?????

thanks:

Good luck with finding one. The 16-85 is still fairly new, and there arent many refurbs floating around.

As for your second question: is there anything your D40 is limiting you with? If so, then it might be time to move up. If not, then stick with it.

I am in the same boat, i find myself missing shots because it takes me too long to go through and change settings, I would like the convenience of the D90's settings and the ability to have AF on some older lenses. Personally I would skip the D60, not enough to warrant the swap, depending on price I would consider the D80, my dad has one and it is pretty nice. Ultimately I would like the D90, it really does seem like a great camera, with image quality almost identical to the D300 for quite a bit less (i know there are many other differences as well, like the metal body and weathersealing, etc.)

If youre gonna jump from a D40, I think the D90 is the bare minimum you should be looking at.

Even if I spend most of my time with my 16-85mm, I cannot "recommend" this lens. It's too expensive if you compare it to other nikons product of this category. The 70-300mm (will fit an a FF body, same build quality, same optic quality) will cost you 200 CDN less...

I beleive Nikon created a kit with this lens and the new D300s because they don't sell enough. As OsmosisStudio said, you'll have difficulty finding a used one, but it's not impossible I you are patient.

Can I ask why you are looking for this lens ? Just curious

I was asked if i do family portraits. I am looking to branch out and discover my own technique. so when i asked which lens my photo friend suggested the wide angle / telphoto in one.

I've had the d40 for almost 2 years still learning the settings. I appreciate all the feedback.
