Check my Flickr (link is in my signature). The Carnival Freedom 2009 pictures were all taken with my old D60 and ajusted in Lightroom. The D3000 is the same sensor so you'll get the same quality. What you get though with the D3000 is the 11 point focus system from the D90.

Hello everyone!
In my own opinion, I think you should save on your camera as much as possible and pick a nice lens if you get extra money. My camera is a D40, which is 99% like de D60, just cleaner sensor and better flash sync speed, but no auto cleaning sensor system and not real ADR. (I prefer D40 over D60 because I think pros have more weight than cons, but judge yourself). I would consider D40 vs D3000, because the D60 is just a cosmetic but not real update of the D40, but the price is different. But anyway, your camera will not make any difference. Even if you get Olympus or Canon will be virtually the same. The D40 is my first DSLR and it makes huge difference from anything before. If you like, you can ask me for my pictures and I can send you a link via email or private message. I've got also a cheap Sigma 18-200.Those two together (D40+Sigma18-200) cost me 700€ 18 months ago and gave me tons of fun and great moments. Please, also take a look at this web for lots of further information about how those cameras work, not in the lab, but on everyday use. There are tons of useful tips there. |

One thing that I LOVE about the D3000 is in the viewfinder grid. It helps so much for lining up/composition, and I know it's a feature a lot of people would be "meh" about, but it has really helped me out.

All my latest ones were taken with the D3000! Until you get to a pic of a rooster. |

Maooose, I own a D60 and, as a beginner, I can say it's been a great camera for me. It was a huge step up from the point-and-shoots I used to use. I would echo what the others have said, too, about saving your money for the best lenses you can possibly afford.

And the D60 is not compatible with lots of lenses, as I am finding out now. (I have the D40X, but it uses the same lens set up). If you are a newbie, and will be using the automatic features alot, you will want to make sure the model you buy doesn't limit your lenses. Those features will not work on these two cameras with the AF lenses. The AF-S DX lenses are easily double the price over the regular AF models. (i.e. the 50mm prime lens (AF-S) that works with the D40X/D60 is $560, only comes in f1.4, as opposed to the 50mm (AF) which has a price tag between $130 & $230, depending on if you want f1.8 or f1.4.

The D40, D40x, D60, D3000, and the D5000 all require AF-S lenses. All of the new lenses that Nikon is coming out with are AF-S as far as I know and you are right about the 50mm 1.8. But you can get the 35mm 1.8 AF-S lens for about $200 which will AF on the above mentioned camera's and it closer to a true 50mm lens due to the crop factor.
