I agree - I've also had my D5000 for only a couple of weeks and also upgraded to this from a Canon point and shoot. I got to grips with the Nikon and found the menu system far easier to use than that on the Canon - and bear in mind that the Nikon has lots more feature than the Canon. I actually wanted a Canon SLR but for reasons I wont go into ended up with my first Nikon - do I regret it not at all.

While I haven't used the D5000 in particular, I have loved the menu system on every Nikon SLR I've tried. They tend to be much more straightforward and clear, compared to the Canons I have tried.

I had bought the Nikon P90 to take on a Hawaii trip, it was awsome on daylight Pictures but not worth squat on Night Photography, in my humble opinion.
![]() I took it back and my Tec refunder all but restocking fees towards the D5000. This is my first SLR, although i had a similar 35mm. I am really impresses, cant wait to get a better Lens. as this one is just basic. I am 70 and it gets harder to learn technical stuff, however so far I have had little problem, and the menues are very user friendly. Pictures are clear and sharp but somewhat darker than im used to. That too will remedy itself as I get used to this Great First SLR. IT is an awsome camera.Richard.

I just bought the D5000 last Friday, it arrived today! I was so excited. I took it out and played with it for about an hour or 2 and I have to say I'm very impressed. This is my first personal DSLR. I previously shot on a regular film SLR while working with a photographer...althought its been about 4 yrs since I used an slr of any sort.
I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it...lol. Get my creative juices flowing. I find its very easy to use and very user friendly. I cant wait to get another lens. |

I started with a D40 that I have since given to my dad. I upgraded to a D80 and added a D300. Just two weeks ago I picked up a D5000 as a friend got it for me for dirt cheap. The D5000 is a great camera, almost as good as the D300 with the form factor of the D40 - which is a plus. The IQ of the D5000 is as good if not better than the D300. The only things I miss on it are the motor for non-AFS lenses, the flashing in the display to indicate blown highlights and the LCD display on top. Other than that it is a GREAT camera.
Correction - I'm an idiot, the flashing display is there but is turned off by default. You simply go to PLAYBACK MENU DISPLAY HIGHLIGHTS DONE and that will turn it on. Sorry for the bad info.

Really, the D5000 doesn't have this? Every Nikon I've seen has that feature -- just page up or down using the 4-way selector, when reviewing an image. That seems like an odd omission.
