I found a screaming deal on a D300 for $400 and couldn't pass it up. It had 40k clicks and the rubber had expanded and was peeling at the corners, and the rubber USB door had expanded to where it was very hard to stuff it back into place.
Did some searching of forums and found out that the cheapest and best option is to order the replacement rubbers directly from Nikon parts (less than $35 for all of the rubber pieces!) and it's easy as cake to replace them yourself. I did use these photo walk-throughs: Replacing the rubber grip: Nikon D300 - D100 Forum: Digital Photography Review D300 Repairs - Mark Micallef's Gallery Images | SmugMug The trickiest part was probably getting the screws to come out that secure the rubber USB door. Some people had suggest using all kinds of glue, rubber cement, or double sided tape, or even cutting the expanded rubber back to size. I'd be very hesitant upon gluing the rubbers to the camera, they're not meant to be permanently bonded and are access points if you ever need your camera repaired. They look brand new, I'm so glad I replaced them. If you don't feel confident replacing them, I'd buy the parts and take them to a camera guy who should do it for cheap. It's 20 min of work
