Default Zoom lens for D5100

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Nikon D5100 which came with the basic 18-55mm lens. I have quickly realized I need to a zooming lens as well to capture distant things.

Which lens would you recommend around $200? Thanks!!

I would see if you can find a used 55-300 for that price. It at least has a metal mount compared to the plastic one on the 55-200.

Here's what I bought for my D5000 - it doesn't have VR but I have not found it to be a problem.

Amazon.com: Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon Digital SLR: Camera & Photo

Nikon 55-200mm VR lens for $150 new (amazon, target, Walmart), or 100-125 used on craigslist. Can't beat those prices and it's a great starter telephoto.
