Default D800... no D3s.. no D4... no D700

So I'm ready to buy a full frame. Really wanted the D800 based on the rumored stats and release date but after bouncing around I think I'm just going to go with a D700.

Thoughts?

What for?
They all have different purposes and to some extent the D800 is going to be a "1 trick pony"....But if you are looking at D800 prices I would suggest considering a used D3s.

Do you need a camera now?
If yes, just go buy a D700.
If no, put it in the bank or something.

I dont need the camera and probably wont ever need to upgrade from my d90 but I do have more shoots lined up and find that when in doors especially for a wedding I'd like to have better ISO capabilities. So I want a new camera.

But the more that I consider it for how often I shoot I don't think I should by the d3s I want it but for extra quality vs extra cost I don't think it's worth it.

We're also having a baby in may so i do plan to take more photos.

I had to borrow my buddies. A era as a backup for the last wedding I did so it'd be nice to have my own.

I like the idea of more megapixels too because it gives you more flexibly with composition after the fact ( can crop more and still get decent quality) but I think low light is prob more of a problem.

I like the idea of a brad new body in terms of resal and extras that are nice (face reg, illuminated buttons etc) but again the d4 and d800 won't likely be as good of wedding. Ameras or indoor party cameras as the d700 or d3s and who knows when the d700x d4s or whatever the new low light models will be and when they'll come out. And hopefully by that point I can sell the d90 and have the 700 as my backup if I shooting enough to merit a new I one.

You know that the D4 specs have been released and is better than the D3s for lowlight situations? It's going to be a full stop better from what I can tell.

Plus do not by gear for resale value, buy it cause you need it.

That's nice and all, but I own a D700 and would love to move up to a D3s just for the ISO. I don't need the extra pixels for weddings and portraits. I need more ISO...

I'm not convinced the images will be any cleaner, and we haven't seen enough to really determine that.

From what I've learned is the the D4 will shoot ISO 6400 like the D3s shoots at 3200...if that's true; that'll be good enough for me.

You are correct though, until we see some real world photo's all this is best guess.

Back to the OP.

If the D800 has 36 MP like I've heard...what you going to be shooting with it?
