Default Clarification on lens

Hi, I came across deal on new on NIKOR lens 70-300mm on ebay.com for 6,500Rs i.e approx 130$. But my friend says it may be plastic body and it can break. So what is your opinion ? Also he says that i may lose a focal length of 15mm since i have 18-55mm lens kit.

I have a few "plastic " Canon lenses, that don't see heavy use, and I havn't had any problems with them.

Loosing a few mm, or even having a bit of an overlap, doesn't really matter.

I had a plastic zoom lens, one good bump is all it took to make it a "had"

They are much more inexpensive, but wont stand up to abuse.

Which 70 to 300. There are a a few
I have a version of this lens it has a metal mount on it.
My best advice is to look it up on the Nikon website.

Nikon does make a plastic body 70-300 lens, Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF, that usually goes for around $150 US, used.

And that lens, the 70-300 4.-5.6 G af is not the best performer, its low contrast and soft at the long end. If you can afford it, i'd recommend going to Nikon's 70-300 VR - it's a much better lens.

Yep. I basically gave mine away when I sold my D70 because I hated shooting with it. Along with the other things you mention, it was so slow to focus that it made it impossible to use for anything that had the slightest bit of movement.

The lens your talking about does not have VR on it which would make it almost unusable at the 200+ mm unless you use something like a tripod or monopod with it, unless you plan on shooting all of your shots at like 1/300 s and faster.
