Default Better DSLR, Making the switch from film F2's

I've been using Nikon's for probably 20 years, Primarily F2 Photomics's & FE's along with a slew of Nikor Lens, close up equipment, bellows etc.etc. (which by the way is all for sale)
I'm gradually coming over to the digital world and need some advice. I'm currently using a D90 and a D3100 both on loan from my kids. I was considering a D200 but procrastinated till then they became unavailable with the coming of the D700. I'm looking for a DSLR in the D200 range as far as cost and capabilities. Can't really squeeze out a D700 (tight budget at this) Certainly would consider a used 200. It's time to give my kids back their cameras Any advise as to what to consider?
Thanks,
Doug

Get something with an internal focus motor so you can still use your old lenses

...F2 and FE are manual focus and would have used manual focus lenses.

but a camera with a focus motor is still a good idea!

Current body in the D200 category is the D300s.

You may also want to look into the D7000. While the D300 is a bit more rugged, has a bigger buffer / faster FPS for sports, and has a bit better focus system, the D7000 is a very strong candidate. It also have the internal motor as the other mentioned.
