I've been having problems with inconsistent focusing on my Nikon D7000. I'm a wedding photographer and I shoot primarily two lenses, Nikkor 35mm F/1.8 AF-S and a Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8. I have noticed some problems with my focus all during this past season but I though it was my error since the body was new (got it in March) and so was the Sigma lens. However, after many months of shooting it seems to be getting worse instead of better. During one late-season wedding, I even found myself resorting to Live-View to get a more accurate focus. For example, if I shoot 4 photos in succession, it might focus correctly in the first image, and the other 3 will be out of focus. Another time it will be the opposite, and not find focus until the 4 image. The most common issue is that the focus will be on the background, even though I am pointing a single focus box right at the person's face. The problems are worse with the Sigma than the Nikkor, but it still happens with both lenses.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am to the point of sending both the camera and Sigma lens back as a last resort. |

I have issues with mine, but it's mostly speed/response related.... Sigmas tend to be a little slower and hunt a little more than Nikons (as do most 3rd party).
You might need to send the body in for tuning..the "focus box" isn't actually the focus sensor being used...it's a spot on the focus screen to "show" which sensor is being used and there can be "alignment issues". There usually ARE minor alignment issues with most cameras, but your's could be worse than typical .

Well just to be curious, I put some of my images into View NX and it will show your focus point on the image, and the results were horrible. The point is exactly where I want it to be, but the focus is somewhere else completely.
