I am intrigued by the new Coolpix L-120. I do a lot of biking and like to take a camera along, but my D-5000 is a bit bulky and I do not like to put it at risk. If the L-120 lives up to the hype it might prove to be a good smaller, low cost alternative. Does anybody have experience with it or its siblings? How is image quality with that super-zoom? How about low light performance?
thanks, Flagstaffrich |

Size wise, the L120 isnt all that much smaller than a D5000 and a 18-55: the only advantage is the zoom range, but youre losing significantly on the image quality side.

Hi all!
I recently bought L120 after reading that it's good at zoom AND macro, but i have a problem with the macro shots. I tried auto+macro and scene macro, I also tried different ISO settings, as I understood the lower ISO the better but L120 can only go as low as 80, and i get glowy-blurry images all the time. I can't get any clear details and the smallest spark of light seems to overexpose. This one has iso80 and exposure compensation -0.7 ( I had to lower the light even with bad lighting) and it is the best yet (indoors). This is a cut of an image, of a tree bark, so you can see the details, these glowing spots look smaller than sand seen with naked eye and they do not glow almost at all as in this photo. ![]() Can somebody tell me what is the problem? The people in the store told me that it is because my camera is not expensive enough...

Can we see the rest of the image? It looks like it's out of focus, for one, but it also looks wet, or like there may be something on the lens.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...0/DSCN0348.jpg The focus was green and it was on a timer :\ so it is not shake. Lens look ok, except a small tiny white dot that can't come off... but I don't think it's making the problem. So you say that this is not "normal" for L120? |

I havent tried the L120 in this kind of situation, but it doesnt seem normal. It could be a symptom of the conditions you were in. The sample you supplied (the one in the thread): is it at 100%? Or more?
Can you give us a full-size sample? The one you've linked to is still not full-size.

Conditions were normal, no fog or humidity in my room and the same happened outside, I'll submit those as well in a few minutes. |

On flickr, you can adjust the size you want: upload the original, and allow all sizes.
