Question christmas light

OK i am new to this and i really want to know what do i need to do Christmas light pictures i have a nikon d40 plz help me

a tripod (or other stable surface) is a must. You can shoot in what ever mode you are comfortable with but the shutter speed will be too slow to hand hold (generally) so you'll need a way to steady the camera.
What other stuff concerns you about taking Christmas light pics?

they are to blurry when i take them so i will try that tonight thanks so much

there a lot of ppl in al with them out its only a week away to turn them on we don't have are on yet but there up
