Default Shooting in manual with Nikon D40

Hi fellow photogs. I have a Nikon D40 and it shoots great photos. I've had it since it frst came out and have been trying ever since to be able to shoot in manual mode. The last camera I had before this one was a Canon TX 35mm. I loved it because it was so easy to shoot in manual...in fact, I never shot in automatic mode. Now, I'm a victim of my film past. I love the detail and richness of digital, not to mention the ability to shoot all day long and not pay to have all the shots developed. I just can't get into the camera and make it work in any type of manual mode. If anyone out there also has a Nikon D40, I would really appreciate you sharing a few tips with this old school gal. Thanks!

The scrollwheel on the back of the camera is your shutterspeed control, just like it would be on any film camera of the past. To change the aperture, you hold down the aperture button (just behind the shutter release, to the right of the INFO button) and turn the same scrollwheel on the back.

ISO is set in the menus or using the INFO button on the back of the camera (bottom button, left side of screen) and using the D-PAD.

Otherwise the theory is the same as with film.

The D40 has a function button right? I set mine (3100) as ISO because I can't stand the menus.
