I spent my first year of shooting without a grip, 99% of the time using single point AF. I just got a grip and never use the grips shutter button because I cant seem to move the AF point selector with vertical orientation (my thumb is an inch too short).
I end up holding the camera as I always have even with the grip on. Is the grip just not for me then?

some of the newer grips have fixed this problem. the new grip for the D7000 has an extra directional pad.

I used my left hand to reach it, with the grip on, it's within reach, you just have to have your hand above your eye...
not as good a solution as an extra pad on the grip ,but it works. |

![]() ![]() ughh, I read on one website that the arrows serve as AF selectors, but they apparently do not. Its just a grip with vertical shutter button, LCD seems pretty worthless. I also didnt realize that the grip only holds one battery. Return. 3bay which grip did you get for your D7000? EDIT: I just discovered the D90 menu feature where you can set the AE/AF button on the MBD80 grip to scroll through the AF points. Not very fun to use, with your thumb you have to hold down the AE/AF button on the grip and with your other finger you use the subcommand dial to cycle through AF points
