Question IM NEW! help??

So I'm looking into buying my first professional camera and i dont know which one to buy. I was looking at the Nikon D3000 and the Nikon D3100. What i like about the D3100 is that it also has video but i dont know if thats really worth the extra $150. Also because im new should i even bother buying extra lenses for now?

I would go for the 3100, and not just because of the video capability.

See here..

I would not buy extra lenses until you need (not want) them.
After a while you know if you need wider, or longer (telephoto) or faster to help with low ligh shooting and or shallow depth of field (zone of sharpness).

The D3100 is the way to go. Look for a deal on a package. I paid $599 for the body, 18-55mm lens, battery etc.
When I bought my D3100 I got a 55-200mm VR lens thrown in for another $150.
Budget for filters, spare battery, remote shutter release, SD cards, tripod and/or GorillaPod GP3.
I don't use a tripod often, but when I need it, I REALLY need it.
I keep David Busch's big D3100 book very close when I can't figure out something with the camera.

That's the basics for the D3100. Resist the urge to load up on gear. Go take pictures instead.

Seconded. You'll just end up spending money duplicating stuff.

I have a D 90 and D 7000 which is all the professional I will ever need. The two compliment each other very well. As far as lenses I have 4 for any purpose I would need the for. I still discover things I did not know about the cameras so this makes me want to practice practice practice.

Never say never...
There was a man who once said: "640K ought to be enough for anybody."
