Thumbs up Nikon DSLR Unique Features

Hi Frnds
Keeping rest all apart, before you choose between a Nikon or another DSLR............do consider about 2 unique features a Nikon Body possess, which I came to know very recently,& which can be really helpful for getting the shots you want.

1.Active D-lighting - It is a method to increase the Dynamic range of a shot,by boosting shadow exposure & by decreasing exposure in highlights.what it means is that you can get an effect similar to a HDR image without needing multiple exposure, although the may not be that extreme as with a HDR image but it certainly helps!!!

2.Auto ISO mode - It is not just auto but programmable.
One can set the max ISO acceptable and then set minimum shutter spd at which the camera wil start to increase the ISO to keep the shutter spd high enough,to avoid camera shake.
Conversely,if you are confident of your steady hand, you can set the camera to not to start increasing ISO until the shutter speed is down to a certain speed, say 1/15th of a second or so.Its somewhat like a ISO priority mode!!!

I leave Active D-Lighting off.

I set the ISO manually.

What exactly are you trying to say besides paraphrasing a brochure?

I never use Active D-Lighting either as it only works for in-camera processed JPGs or, I believe raw NEFs processed in Capture NX. I only shoot in raw mode, and post process in LR3 or CS5.

I also set ISO manually. Auto ISO was a pain when I tried it, because the trigger for bumping ISO is shutter speed, and the shutter speed at which you want to start bumping ISO will vary depending on the lens you're using. 1/15 might be fine for a short focal length, but it's useless for a 300mm, even with VR.....

It's far better to learn how to obtain correct exposure by reading the scene, choosing the right aperture, shutter, ISO and exposure compensation settings and using the histogram than to rely on electronic frippery to do the thinking for you and quite often get it wrong.

Then frame it as such: at least present it somehow. Saying that you found it exciting and wanted to post it for everyone's thoughts is fine... but the way you did here is just "HERE IS SOME INFORMATION" and then nothing. There's no introduction or conclusion.

It was NOT self-explanatory. That's why I asked. It was just information. It would be like me making a thread where the only content was the definition of various types of clouds and leaving it at that. It's information, good information, granted, but it's useless if there's no rhyme or reason for it.

And for the LOVE OF GOD: wrote out full words. "v" is not a word. In the context of your post im going to assume it was shortform for "very". Just type the three more damned letters.

Active delighting maybe ok for jpeg shooters, but worthless for RAW. Auto ISO is not a feature, its a mistake.

My first response to you was cooperative. I asked a question. You proceeded to try to lecture me. Onus is on you.

Think of a forum post as something you'd see on a bulletin board, be it at the office, your apartment building, doctor's office, whatever. If someone just walks up, puts a piece of paper that just has instructions on how to make bricks on it, nobody is going to understand. But if that same person puts a flyer up saying that they are teaching a pottery class, then it's useful information.

"I LIKE CLOUDS" is less useful than "Those clouds look like it might rain later"
