Default Will picture quality be that much better with D7000 compared to D70s

I have liked my Nikon D70s the past 6 years, but have heard a lot of very positive reviews for the newer D7000. For all the money for the newer D7000, is the investment worth replacing my D70s? In other words, has the technology gotten all that much better especially in the picture quality as seen in the D7000 compared to my older D70s?

Thanks for all input.

Hi and welcome.
Are you dissatisfied with the results of your D70? That is still a good camera and if you are still getting quality & performance that makes you happy then why change? There will always be new/better technology coming out...as soon as you buy the next best thing...there will be a new next best thing. When you find the camera can't keep up to your demands then it's probably time to upgrade.

What lenses do you already have? What do you primarily shoot? Hobbyist, or looking to make a living?

You'll enjoy the huge LCD screen and nice ISO performance compared to d70

There is a significant jump in image quality between the d70 and d7000.

In image quality alone you'll see, a large increase in resolution, increased dynamic range, better color, lower noise (including base Iso) and much improved high ISO results.

amidst several other added features and improved performance in other things in the non image quality side of the fence.

There are challenges in moving to such a camera though - it (particularly the high resolution) will show flaws in your shot technique and it will start to stress lower quality lenses. You'll need more processing power for the larger files (especially if you shoot raw)

I'm not sure if there's much of an improvement in the body itself, i think that will remain at a similar and very familiar level to your d70.

Disclaimer - I've never used a d7000, but I can extrapolate based on my use of the d70, d200 and d700, and what trusted people have said about the d7000.

I personally use a D80, but I've spent quite a bit of time with the D7000, and I'll tell you something - the jump in image quality is actually kind of ridiculous. I couldn't believe the improvement. Performance at higher ISO is also drastically improved.
