Default d7000 backfocus issue

just got my fresh d7000 body only from B&H shipped to me wednesday.
so as excited as i was i charged the battery and popped it in, slapped my 35mm af-s in and started taking photos of my toys. i noticed its blurry on the figure im focusing on...but... its sharp at the background.
i tried and tried, changed iso settings, shutter speed etc and got the same results, so i thought.. wow.. this really is a damn advanced camera then coz i just cant focus well.
i did everything i could and its still like that, whether i focus on the fridge, toys, table, pringles..it just wont focus where i point the square single point focus on.
then i read about back focus.
it pisses me off that i ahve not heard of this issue and it seemed pretty common.
has anyone here able to fix this issue for atleast the 35mm.
help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

1: Is the innacuracy in the viewfinder, or in images?
2: Is it always the background?
3: What was your subject? What focus mode were you using?
4: Are you SURE you're focusing properly?
5: does the 35mm lens focus fine on other bodies?

1. i guess it would be the image since lets say, i focus on the pringles with the background of a paperbag. looks fine on the viewfinder but when the photo is captured and i check it, the focus is on the background and the pringles is all blurred out.
2. yes
3.bottles, toys. af-s af-c af-a switching it up just to see.. single focus point.
4. i believe so.
5. yes. i use the 35mm lens on my d3000 and its fine.

thanks for helping out.

If it's consistently backfocusing on every shot and you know the camera's not using a different AF spot, you could try using AF fine-tuning on the Setup Menu.

Unfortunately that means going in and changing it every time you change a lens: If the 35 is the only one that isnt performing well, then it could be worth sending the lens in too.

Does the D7000 backfocus with other lenses too?

i have read about it recently and i believe d7000 backfocuses with a couple of lenses. i might try to send the camera when i get back from vacation. as of now i fine tuned the lens and i think its pretty good enough. havent tested it too much though.

Any article you read about systemic backfocus or frontfocus issues on the D7000 are rubbish.
