Hello Everyone,
I'm planning to buy a DSLR and need some guidance to choose the gear. I'm not good with customising the camera body and lens systems. I'm planning for Nikon D5100 with [AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR] lens. Also I've learned on the Nikon website that this camera body does not have an AF motor system, I'm not very much sure if that effects the performance if we are using the AF lens system. I've a budget of around 1200 USD (55000 INR). Please help me out with, what are the good combinations in this much budget. Thanks ![]() Rajdeep |

The D40/40x/60/3000/5000/3100/5100 bodies do NOT have autofocus motors in the body. This is only of relevance if youre using lenses that are listed as "AF-D" or "AF". With those lenses, the camera cannot autofocus.
However, if you use "AF-I" or "AF-S" lenses, you'll have no problem as those lenses have the motors built in. The built-in motor is a holdover from the older autofocus days: Nikon chose to keep their mount but add the drive system (as did others) while Canon chose to ditch their mount and re-engineer a new one with the autofocus system in the lenses. Eventually all Nikon lenses will have AF-S motors (save a few very rare exceptions, for technical reasons).
