As many as you need for your shooting style. There is no set list of lenses you should have, it depends on what you need. Personally I have an 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 (general shooting), 35mm f/1.8 (indoors/lowlight), and 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (wildlife/distance/sports). I'm saving for a macro lens for those up close shots that I o-so want but can't get of bugs, spiders, and insects.

Azaki pretty much as it: As many as you need for your shooting style.

I have 7, but there are 3 that I use the most: 50mm, 105mm Macro, and 10-20mm.

I've got 4 right now, but I only really use my 35mm and 50mm. (The other two are the kit zooms.)

My "complete DX set" would be the following: ($3285)
-10.5mm fisheye
-10-24mm wide angle zoom
-35mm standard
-50mm 'portrait' lens
-105mm macro

My "complete FX set" would be: ($5185 or $5915)
-16mm
-16-35mm
-50mm
-85mm
-105mm

That $1900 difference might end up being the exact reason why I don't go FX... =)

70-300 f/4.5-5.6

Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
Nikon 50mm 1.8
Nikon 55-200mm VR

My next lens might be a 1:1 macro lens like Nikon 60mm 2.8D.

I'm using 2 zooms + 2 primes. Zooms are for when I will be changing the focal lenght often during a session while primes are for when I can take my time to compose / shallow depth of field / low light.

They are in my signature.
