How many pics do you take around 24mm with your 18-55?

Do you want to do street photogpaphy and/or city, hand held, low available light shooting.
Then get it.

I was waiting for the how many pics question ! I'm not sure is my honest answer.

I'm using the 35/50mm for street stuff, but I guess the 24mm will give me a little more ......

Slow close now !!!!

Sounds like you wanna buy it..

So buy it.. The Lens is great. The FoV is very good, and sits nicely between your 11-16 and your 35.

You won't be taking the kind of photos you take with the 35 or the 50, but then you will alter the photos to suit the lens.. Like you said.. You don't want the zoom, so don't get it, get this one instead.

ON THE OTHER HAND....

Sell your 35 and 50 primes and get the 24-70 2.8... Now THAT's a stunning lens.. I'm saving for one..

Either way, you've got a brilliant lens.. Whether you use it or not is up to you.

On a D5000 I would get the 17-55 f2.8. Sure, it is a DX lens and would not work if you change to full frame, but 24mm is a little long on a DX sensor for some stuff and it is about half the price of the 24-70

The 24 2.8 is a nice and small lens - about the size of the 35 f2afd and 50 1.4 afd - maybe a little bigger. It's outperformed on digital cameras by most lenses that do 24mm, and definitely outperformed by the 2.8 zooms - which include the 17-55, 24-70 and 14-24. If you go for the 24 2.8 - I would go for a used one in good condition. (I shoot with a ton of primes myself)

The 24 2.8 has softer corners and doesn't collimate the light as well as newer lenses designed for digital sensors - but if you aren't putting your subjects of main interest in the corners - it should function well enough - but I'm not sure you're going to get much advantage over the 18-55 kit zoom, beyond added light gathering capability and small size / weight. (The size weight advantage starts to disappear pretty quickly when you gather multiple primes )

24 is a nice length on dx. (about 36) which is definitely a very classic FOV (and one of my favorite's).
