Default Help! Memory Card Keeps Deleting Stuff!

I need help! I have a Nikon D90 and I've been using a Transcend class 10 16gb SD card, this past week my pictures have been disappearing! When I playback my images it says "File Does Not Contain Image Data" so, I backed up the pictures I didn't have saved, and every time I playback through my images it seems like I lose more! They all seem to show up when I put my card into the computer. Yesterday I switched to a Kodak card, and now it's doing the same thing/giving me the same error. Do you think this is something wrong with my computer, card or camera? Anyone else ever had this problem? Any help greatly appreciated! -Thanks!

If you are having problems with two different makes of memory card , it must be the camera, computer or software.

I think it is a software problem.

Are you viewing the images from the memory card in your notebook , some viewers will save any alterations back to the card without asking you, and then your camera will not be able to show you the edited photo.

Make sure you format the memory card in the camera before you use it, not in the computer, then when you have finished taking photo`s copy them off the memory card onto the computer before viewing them.

I am not sure if any of this will help.

John.

Make a file folder on your desktop, copy the images to it. Once copied, remove card, place in camera and reformat.

Thanks for the help!

John, I was viewing them from the memory card (I wasn't on my computer, so I didn't copy them as it was almost 5gigs of pictures) I rotated the images in Microsoft (?) Again, not on my computer. Even if what you said were the case (saving to the memory card automatically, making the camera unable to open them) wouldn't I be able to view them on the computer again, either through the memory card and after I copied them? They don't show up anywhere, they're just gone. They still take up space, but no images show up.

Blah. Technology sucks -.-

It sounds like the card is to big for the camera to handle, this happened to me with my D40x when i tried to use a 16gig card in it, very frustrating, Check page 242 of your manual and pick up a couple of 4 or 8 gig cards instead, I found 4 was generally big enough for a days shooting in raw but always carry a couple of spares.

Big plus one! Do not use your memory card as a long term storage device! And never format the card anywhere but in the camera.

Microsoft's rotate tool makes changes to the jpeg file! Do not do that. If you want to view the pictures and don't have your computer but are borrowing a friends or using the libraries get a USB drive and copy them to that before viewing.

Get a program called picture rescue before you decide to delete and reformat the card. It will probably be able to save your photographs.

Hi,

I am not sure, however, I remember reading somewhere in the D90 manual about protecting (locking) pictures while those are played back in the camera. I suspect this is happening in your case, because it seems strange that you would be able to see the same pictures on your laptop but not in the camera.

Regards

If you edit the photos in ANY way and place them on the card and back into the camera, it'll give you that answer. It can do it simply from copying to/from a computer.
