Question HELP! Flash stuck down Nikon d40

Can anyone help me fix a problem with my camera?
The flash works on it but it arm will not pop up. So when it flashes (i keep it on "no flash" mode) it stays inside the camera.
Right now its not an issue but i would like to to be fixed without having to send it off to some store.
Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

check the mechanism- is anything stuck in it and are all the pieces still intact?

Default Same problem

I just had the same problem with my D40. I got a drop a soda in there, somehow... You have to gently help it open while pressing the button. Gently! Once it pops open, clean the edges of both the top and bottom of the flash. Mine seems to be working fine now.

Either you have something gluing it down or the spring/arm mechanism has become disconnected from the button. If you put it in auto flash and try to take a photograph that obviously needs flash does it try to pop up on its own as in you hear the arm move but the flash doesn't pop up? If so then if you wish this pita flash to work you will need to take it in to the shop. Otherwise just lift gently while pushing the button and see if it will pop up and you may hear the pin pop back into the arm.

I hate that pop up and never use mine. Although I do have a sb-900 and use that regularly.

You may have to do a little maintenance if you're up for the job. There are little micro switches under the hot shoe that sometimes get stuck. Their purpose is to sense when a speedlight is attached to disable the pop up from lifting. This could be your problem, and you'll have to do a little dis-assembly on the hot shoe to get to the switches.
