Yay! I finally picked up my camera today. when out shooting as you can see from my post in the people sys. I ran into some problems. i tried bracketing some shots. i set the bkt function to 1stop difference and set it to bracket 2 photos. one normal and one over exposed. well it only took one photo everytime i did it, so im going to have to read my book some more.

Another thing I ran into today is the auto focus. I could not chose an auto focus point unless it was on MF and then obviously it wasn't going to focus. so ill have to read up on that too...

You don't have the lock button set do you? If you're on single point AF mode and it doesn't let you select the point the L is the only button that I know of.

I figured it out already, i had to hold the af button down and change it to single point with the dial. im still getting the hang of this thing, it has a lot of nobs and switches

ok so i figured out the bracketing, bkt, function. You have to have it set to A or S. I had it in M which is why it wasn't working

I got a D7000 the day before Thanksgiving. Right out if the box this camera rocks, I can tell you that its metering, white balance and colors all are on point. If you wanted to you could shoot this camera in total auto and be more than happy with its jpeg output. I know, I have done it.

Ergonomically the camera feels good in your hand and the control buttons are well laid out. Coming from the Nikon D200 gave me a short learning curve with this camera. Since I started shooting with the D7000 I haven't picked up my D200.

Should you buy this camera? Yes. Do not hesitate, you will be glad you did.

I am having trouble getting "quick" photos of baby...I have the camera on P or Auto, and the baby jerks around; it seems to take pictures fine, EXCEPT for when the baby smiles...the camera freezes up and won't shoot; I'm sure its a setting issue...anyone have any advice? Trying to get some Christmas shots...Thank you.

i'm betting it is a focus issue...where you are too close and the shutter won't fire because the camera doesn't detect sharp focus...

Great to hear you are choosing D7000. I heard that D7000 version 2 is coming out... If i am you i will be waiting.. ;D

Again, if i am you, i will apply open close principles in selecting the lens come with D7000. This principle says, you should add-on and not replacing the lens that you already have, and avoid you from selling or replacing the lens after a few years usage. If budget is not your concern, forget about this principle. I adapt this principle from OO design.

It is not hard to see many people replacing their kit lens after a few years. For me, it is a waste. You should buy lens to add-on and not to replace existing lens. So, i hope you can reconsider the kit lens that comes with D7000.

My worry about Nikon is the cost. In my country, Canon lenses will be almost cheaper than Nikon's. For example, Canon 50mm EF II f/1.8 only cost you USD 62 while Nikon AFS 50mm f/1.8 cost you USD 225 (for entry-level dslr) in my country. D7000 has less impacts on that as it can utilize AFD
If you plan to get cheap speedlights, YongNuo is better support Canon than Nikon, at this moment.

I was considering getting the kit but now that you have explained your opinion maybe I'll just get the body and get the lens I want.

When did you hear the V. 2 would be coming out?
