Hi all
Im looking at getting a better standard zoom to go with my new D7000. We all know that Nikons f2.8 are "the" lense to get but the price is out of my reach. The focal range i was leaning towards was the tamron 28 - 75mm f 2.8 or the sigma 24 - 70mm f2.8 i like the sigma range but the tamron reviews much better. The tamron 17 - 50mm f2.8 seems like a good lense but i think it will leave to big a gap in my current lense kit and the 70 - 200 f2.8 is a very distant dream. any help would be great

It seems that you equate better with a faster lens. Do you need a faster lens?

That being said, I'd personally hold out for the nikon version. See if you cant find a used 28-70 f/2.8 floating around.

![]() Zoom are very convinient when things a moving fast like sports, music shows, etc. But I prefer primes now when I have the time to move around and try different angles.

If you can manage without the f/2.8, take a look at a Nikon 28-105D f/3.5 - 4.5 for around $200 (used, of course, they're out of production). Better construction and better optics than the current kit lenses, plus a decent macro capability.

I'm in the same boat and have been reading/watching reviews on the tamron 28-75 2.8 and am trying to sell my kit lenses to get one. B'c I'm just a hobbyist and don't make my living with my glass I will try out a used Tammy. For me theres a big difference between 400 and 1200.
