Looking to purchase a wide lens for my D90 - any suggestions? Should I get just a standard wide lens or should I go for the wide - zoom lens. Also, has anyone ever used a Lens Baby on their D90? Wanting to purchase one of those too. Any suggestions as to which lens to purchase would be helpful. I have been asked to photography a large family - with close to 100 people in one picture. Looking to get something that will accomodate this picture and possible more large groups such as wedding parties.

I shoot with a D90 and I can HIGHLY recommend the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX! It's an Ultra Wide angle lens (108 degree field of view) Tack sharp images. Crazy field of view. Everyone rates it even higher than the Nikkor 12-24 that goes for twice the price. Super sturdy well built lens. And it doesn't hurt that it's an f/2.8 to boot. I spent weeks researching wide angle lenses before purchasing this one. No regrets. Love it actually. I use it most every day. Amazing for nature photography. Check it out. Ken Rockwell did a review on it and he shows samples of how sharp it is compared to the Nikkor as well. I bought it here Kenmore Camera since everyone else was out of stock waiting for more to be manufactured.

You have a few options.
As mentioned, Tokina 11-16mm is a popular choice and well rated. I haven't read any negative comment that would prevent me from buying it. The Nikon 10-24mm would be an excellent choice as well. The difference between 10mm and 11mm is important when it comes to wide. This is probably my next lens. If you are looking for a wide but not ultra-wide, the 16-85mm at 16mm can be really interesting. It's also a very good all around lens. It's a bit soft at 16mm but can be corrected with in post. Hope this helps

I can only support the lenses I've tried, and the Nikon 10-24 is superb.

i have the sigma 10 - 20 f3.5 and very happy with it. Nikon is always a step above the rest but so is the price, all the wide angle review pretty well, it comes down to what you want to spend.
Lensbaby is not for every one if you like arty then you will luv it as i do. I got a 2nd hand original lensbaby ($50 off ebay) now want to upgrade to a composer so i dont have to hold the front of the lense while shooting. They will only work on manual setting on nikons fstop is set with changeable aperture rings and exposer is with shutter speed. A very interesting lense to play with. I have added the lensbaby web site, there are a few groups on flickr worth having a look at and i have some photos on my flickr page. SLR Camera Lenses for Nikon, Canon and more | Lensbaby Lenses

I'll also recommend the Tokina 11-16mm. It's price for build and image quality is nothing short of outstanding.
