Default D7000 + GPS coordinates?

I'm not sure if there is somewhere else I should post this or not but I have a job coming up where I need to have the GPS Coordinates Embedded in the images as Meta Tags.

I'm shooting with a D7000 (just got it ).
I see that Nikon has a unit called the GP-1 GPS Unit...but I would rather not spend $280 on something if I don't have to. Is there a less expensive way of doing this?

Thanks

If you have an iphone there's an app called Geotag Photos Pro that's only $4.

manually record from a gps? I suppose you could even use the voice recorder on the camera and speak the coordinates from a hand held gps...then hand key them in to the metadata when you are editing...

besides the Nikon unit there are also 3rd party GPS units for cameras starting at $100

Do you have a handheld receiver already? If so, there are some desktop apps that can sync your route with the pictures from your camera, so you don't have to buy a camera specific receiver.

I don't have a hand held unit (just one in my car). I don't mind manually putting the coordinates in if that is possible? Can you do that in photoshop somehow?

There's an addon for CS5, that will let you enter GPS data through the File Info panel.
Adobe - Photoshop : For GPS Data panel for File Info dialog in Photoshop CS5
Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : GPS Data panel for File Info dialog in Photoshop CS5

You can edit it directly in Lightroom and I believe PS Elements as well.

If that's the case, I would find an inexpensive handheld GPS receiver and then follow these instructions: How to Geotag Images
