Looking at getting a Nikon teleconverter, either the 1.4x or 1.7x to use on my Nikon f/2.8 70-200, and was wondering would these also work on my Nikon 50mm f/1.4G?
also any comments good or bad on the telecoverter on the 70-200VR I ? Waste of $$ or worth it for the times that I do need longer reach for nature/ wildlife shooting?

The Nikon TC will only work on select long lenses and a few zooms, the 70-200 f/2.8 is one of them. Some non-Nikon TC will work with other lenses but you give up too much in quality with them. Why would you want to put a TC on a 50mm anyway - it only gets you to the range your 70-200 already give you.
That said, I have a Nikon TC20-EII and am very pleased with it. Even though you give up 2 stops, the 70-200 is fast enough that this works well. Here are a couple of shots I recently took with my 70-200 and the 2.0 TC: ![]() Camera Nikon D300 Exposure 1/3200 sec Aperture f/8.0 Focal Length 400 mm ISO Speed 1250 Exposure Bias +2/3 EV ![]() Camera Nikon D300 Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1000) Aperture f/10.0 Focal Length 400 mm ISO Speed 800 ![]() Camera Nikon D300 Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1600) Aperture f/7.1 Focal Length 400 mm ISO Speed 800
