Default Need guidance to select a Monitor

Dear Sir & Madam,

My query may be irrelevant to this forum but I am writing it here because I am a Nikon user.

My query is that presently I am using ASUS VW192T for editing my photos. Its maximum resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels, 16.2 million colors, viewing angle of 160" (H)/160" (V), a contrast ratio of 800:1 and brightness of 330cd/m2. The Software I use to edit/convert my photos are Nikon Capture NX2 & Photoshop CS5.

Now I am planning to upgrade my monitor to a LED back lit model. In my mind first choice is DELL (any one either IN2030M or ST2220M). Along with them I am considering lots of other models like LG, Samsung, Benq, Viewsonic etc. Now my confusion is that which one will fulfill my purpose for processing a Nikon raw file with out losing the colour details while viewing in my monitor.

Some of key factor I am considering while choosing the monitor are:
01. Contrast Ratio ( Dell ST2220M & IN2030M = 8,000,000:1)
02. Panel Type TN with LED backlight
03. Max Viewing Angle 160° (vertical), 160° (horizontal)
04. Connectivity VGA (Analog) & DVI-D (HDCP)

Is my selection is ok or do I need to consider other features than these. Please guide me for the better selection.

Thanking you
With regards
Pranab

Why?

No, seriously, why?

What does your current monitor do/not do that you need to change?

Dear OsmosisStudios,

Thanks for your question & sorry for delayed reply.

One technical person at our place told me that if the dynamic contrast ratio of the LCD monitor is not high then it is not worth to edit photos in there. In that case he advices me to use CRT monitor other wise LCD monitor with LED backlit. So this was my reason for switching to LED monitor. If I am wrong please guide me.

Thanking you
With regards
Pranab

If you are looking for professional monitor it would be:
Eizo or Nec but be prepaired to pay more that 1000€ for suffient monitor.

PS. From Eizo and Nec you can find less expensive models but those are just well not so special and prolly not worth buying.

Do you expect professional produces from photo editing then go for these two, if you just want to have better than now over 300€ lcd's do the trick.

But as reminder the good monitor DON'T make better editing and normally you won't see so much difference if you are not going to pixel inspection.

And one more thing... Contrast like 8,000,000:1 are dynamic contrasts.
Dynamic contrast is contrast + backlight that shows photos normally wrong way cause it shows darker places with less light and not with darker color.

People that do this for living will probably be looking for every improvement they can get. But it's like many thing in this world. It's a lot more expansive, for a little bit more.

Like Haka1a said, get ready to pay 1000+ for your monitor.

Are you satisfied with your prints ? Keep in mind you may have a super duper mega precise monitor but if most people look at your pictures through their monitor it won't change anything.

This is like TV vendor who are trying to sell you this new TV with the super crisp image but you are looking at the commercial through your 27" old CRT hahahaha.

My 2 cents

Apple's are benq panels so those are not so good as people think. They are bit over the normal but still not so good as they sound or cost.

Thanks Mr. Gturner, but I am sorry to say you that in our place the calibrator for monitor is not available. So I am trying to get some information about it.
