I bought the Nikon SB-600 speedlight about six months ago and I came across this trouble shoot. When I attach my speedlight onto my camera, "--" pops up on the zoom-head position indicator. In the manual, it says "a zoom-head position adjustment error has occurred. Turn off the SB 600 and camera and detach the SB 600 from the camera. The, reattach the SB 600 to the camera and turn on the power." I've done it many times and still doesn't take the "--" off. I've tried cleaning contacts on the camera and flash, and I've also tried resetting the settings on both. This is frustrating. help?

Try the hard reset as Scooter described. If not successful your diffuser switch is broken. This a common problem with speedlights from Nikon. Usually happens when the flash is dropped can even occur when dropped on carpet. Jim
