What exactly does the D7000 offer that the D90 doesn't ?
I would suggest going for a real upgrade and getting a D300s

Honest answer, the D300s I think is to much for my family. I might be able to handle manual, but all of them still use Auto, P, S, or A when they are taking photos.

![]() I dont understand... are you buying this for family? ....the D300s still has "Program mode" for PhD folk. From a camera capabilities point of view.. why do you need an updrage IE. what isn't the D90 doing that you think the D7000 will? or is this a simple matter of wanting another camera to pass around?

Re: the OP: what the others said. The move from a D90 to D7000 isn't really an upgrade- more of a sideways step. And as the others said, the D300s certainly does have P, A, and S modes in addition to M.

The advise I have been given was the opposite. That the D7000 was the better camera. I wanted a new camera with more focus points, a little better video and duel card holders.
But I was concerned about the lens that came with the D7000, is it worth the difference even if I could find a body alone. Now you guys have me thinking about the D300s because the price is less than the D7000 kit with a lens I'm unsure of. Candleman: Maybe I am over reacting a little, but: or is this a simple matter of wanting another camera to pass around? sounds a little uncalled for when I have just come here for help and advise. I actually like my D90, but am ready for a new camera. If it is to pass around, well, I would at least like a nice one. |

THe D300s is the same imaging system as the D90: there's no upgrade there.
The D7000 is an updated sensor and a few other things. I wont consider it an upgrade but a refresh. If you wanna upgrade, wait for the D300s replacement, likely sometime this fall. Otherwise you're wasting time and money

51AF points Vs 11 full Alloy & weather sealing AF-ON button hard switch Metering and focus and shooting modes. PC/Sync port pretty significant IMHO Quote:
If I was going to insult you it wouldn't be in a veiled way. I haven't even sworn at you yet.. that usually comes first. its a legitimate question from someone trying to help. the only thing the D7000 will be an upgrade in, is with regard to the AF-F, and a 1 stop difference on the ISO.. If you have the cash then its not an issue.. I was simply saying a D7000 isn't much of an upgrade. You could get a Fuji HS10 for the family which does 24-720mm + macro .....for the price of a crappy 18-105mm lens on it's own.

I am extremely brand new to owning a DSLR. I bought the D7000. I'm a little confused over what everyone is saying, but here is a link to the site that helped me a little to make up my mind .
Nikon D300 vs D7000 The D7000 got 100% over both the D90 and the D300 Again before anyone jumps on me, I don't pretend to know any facts on quality of any of them, this site just helped when I was researching.
