Default D90 Question

Hi all, On my D90, I have a 50mm 1.8 lens attached. In manual mode with the shutter button set to (s) single frame. When I depress the button the shutter stays open until I shut the camera off to close the shutter. No problems in Auto mode. Any ideas? Thanks, Sean

whats the shutter speed youre using in manual mode?

It sounds like the mirror lock-up, but I dont see why it'd do it over and over.

If it's in M mode, the only thing I can think of is superlong exposures. When you turn the camera off and turn it back on, is there a new image on the card (probably all white)?

thats what it is Kentucky .... you're shutter is staying open. You have to wait it out, lol... until you learn what's what. I am experiencing the same thing. I can't seem to grasp shutter settings..... ho hum....

I think part of my problem is I'm not used to setting shutter speed with this digital camera. The shutter speed is represented by whole numbers? I was so used to 1/250, 1/500 etc...

On the main dial, put your camera in shutter priority "S" on the dial. Using the back wheel on the right side turn the wheel until you see 60 in your viewfinder. This will set your camera to 1/60 sec...test by taking the shot, and I believe this will solve your problem. Somewhere along the line, you probably set your shutter speed to a very long setting without knowing it.

Another thing I'm finding is I am just not used to a lens that can gather some much light so easily. I've been playing around with the settings in manual and find outside on a bright day in a close shot at f22, I still have to much light at 1.8. Does that make sense?
