or whatever it is - glorified point and shoot. I keep getting 'battery exhausted' message when I power my Nikon on. Even with new batteries. Is anyone familiar with this issue, and can you provide a swift resolution?

Test the batteries in a voltmeter. If that doesnt solve things, then see if you dont have corrosion on the contacts in the camera. If you cant see anything, it may be time for the camera to meet it's maker, so to speak.
