I just purchased my first DSLR yesterday.. its a NIKON D3100 (I know.. entry level stuff.. but I've got an entry level budget!).
I spoke to the salesman at my local camera shop and he said I really should only use class 6 or higher SD cards. I purchased an SD card at Wal-Mart last night and all they had was Class 4 or Class 10.. the Class 10 carried about a $10 premium price over the Class 4 of the same capacity. My question to you is: Does it really matter? Will I notice any problems if I purchase Class 4 memory instead of Class 10? I did shell out for the Class 10 but I'm going to buy another card to have as a backup and I don't know if I should buy another 10 or if a 4 will suit my needs. I don't really plan to do a lot of video but I do like the multiple shot release mode.. something cool about holding down that button and shooting 4 or 5 photos rapidly. |

More than anything else, it's about read/write speed.
I have two of these: Amazon.com: SanDisk Ultra SDHC 4GB SD Memory Card (SDSDRH-004G-A11, US Retail Package): Electronics and one of these: Amazon.com: Sandisk 4 GB Extreme III SDHC Card (SDSDX3-4096, Static Pack): Electronics as well as a long-discontinued class 2 4GB from Kingston. The Kingston is so damn slow, I haven't used it in over a year. The three Sandisks are relatively similar in speed, but the class 6 is slightly faster. Honestly, given the price difference on Amazon ($22 vs. $9), I'd go for the Class 4's. The 5MB/s difference isn't all that much. Last edited by Almond.Butterscotch; 03-17-2011 at 03:39 AM. |
