Default Nikon D3100

I'm in the process of window shopping around for my first dSLR camera, and this one was recommended to me as a good one for a beginner to start out with.

Has anyone ever used this one before? Like I said, it's my first time buying a dSLR, and I want to make a good buy, but still stay in my price range.

i got the D3100 in Feb and i'm loving it! only drawback i can see is that you can't use a wireless remote with it. wired works fine.

Your best bet is to go to a camera store and hold this one and other makes/models in your price range and see what feels the most comfortable.

I just bought my first DSLR day before yesterday. Its a Nikon D3100 and I'm having a lot of fun shooting photos.. The vast majority of them have been complete crap but its still fun! I say take the plunge! Good luck!

Not knowing you r budget i would first ask. How seriously do you see your self gettng into this? Will you ever want to use off camera flash, what about non AF-S lenses, IR remote, bracketing (I know this can be done manually)?

i ask this because while the 3100 is a good body, it does have a fair amount of limitations, not that those cannot be over come, just that in order to get some, not all ( there is no way around using non AF-S lenses with the 3100, aside from only being able to use manual focus) the items I listed above you are going to be spending much more $$ on accessories to get that functionality. Now if none of those things are important to you then i would go ahead with the 3100 as i said it is a good body.

If those other things are important to you and your budget can manage it i would look at a D90, new or a good used one.

check out my blog to see what it can do. i have been very pleased and am already looking into getting a prime lens. but, i agree with holding it and getting a feel first. as for the limitations, they just didn't seem to be an issue for me. good luck!!
