Default 35mm 1.8 Nikon dx

Saw this lens in Amazon for $200. Anyone have this? For a 1.8 lens the price is affordable? What do you think Nikon users? Plan to use it for the 3100 body. Thanks!

Yes, I have it, and I love it. (Some of the other frequenters in this subforum are groaning). I got it back in Fall 2009 and between then and January 2011, it has been on my body 98% of the time. I used it for everything- from landscapes to portraits to abstracts to architecture to candid street use. It's my workhorse. The only reason why I haven't used it as much lately is because I just picked up a 50mm f/1.4 and have been trying to get adjusted to its angle of view and how it performs.

*It works well for portraits, but use caution when trying to taking head shots with it as you will encounter a healthy amount of distortion at that distance.

As you probably already know, the 35mm is a 'standard' or 'normal' lens on any of the crop sensor (DX) bodies, and it's pretty close to what you see normally. (IMHO, what my eyes see is a bit wider than what I see with my 35.) Given the relatively low price tag of $200 and it's light weight, I really don't see how you can go wrong!

I can't really leave a comment in a forum about the 35mm f/1.8 without plugging my set:

We have it, and love it. Not sure if it will autofocus on your camera though..you might want to check that out (I can't keep up with what does, and what doesn't)..and the price is right

It's my one and only so far for my D5000 and I love it. Small, light, quick to focus, solid in low light, nice separation, and all for $200. It really is a steal.

The 35mm f/2 won't AF on the D40/40x/60/3000/5000/3100, but it'll cover full-frame.
The 35mm f/1.8 will AF on all dSLRs but won't cover the D3/x/s or D700.

This lens hardly ever comes off my camera. At $200, it's a steal. Get it.
