humm - no idea
but - confirm your batteries are fully charged - remove then remount the lens, attempt a shot - put the lens in manual focus and turn the focus ring checking for abnormal resistance Last edited by zona5101; 03-05-2011 at 01:52 AM. |

The good news is that you likely still have warranty and the focus motor is in the lens not the camera body. You may have a bad lens. There is a tiny motor in (around) the lens that drives the auto focus. It is possible that it is defective. Take it back to the store and ask to try another lens or the one they have on the display model. If that lens works on your camera body and yours still doesn't, return the camera and get a new one.

Have you checked the auto/manual switch on the lens itself? I know it sounds stupid, but I switched it once on my 18-55 without knowing it, took me a few hours to figure it out and drove me nuts...
