Default Upgrading D40 to D90 good choice?

I've shot with my D40 for about five years. I haven't had any complaints with it, just outgrowing it. Finally trained myself to not shoot in auto, and i need more options. Is the D90 the best route or are there better models that are comparable to the price?

Thanks

Nathan

You can pick up a used D90 for around $550 or so these days, its a great camera and a good upgrade from you D40.

I went from a D40 to a D80, added a D5000, got rid of the D40, got a D300, got a D90, got rid of the D80, got rid of the D90 and then got a D700.

I went from a D40 to a D90, it's a good upgrade path. The D90 is a more capable camera in just about every respect. I don't expect to feel the need to upgrade again for a while, maybe when the D7000 successor comes out ...

If you can, I'd go straight to a D7000, since it has about the best sensor you can buy in a camera right now. I'm planning on buying one this month.

I went from the 40 to the 7000 and ... while i am keeping my 40 for alot of reasons, but... its really going to come down to your budget
the body alone for the 7000 is 1300

good luck

i adore my 7000
