Default Nikon d80 for $350 with 2 lenses?

So I'm going to be buying my first dslr and was wondering if getting the nikon d80, that comes with a (18-55 non-VR) and a 28-135 Macro lens, for $350 a good deal? It's used but i'm going to check it out to make sure it's in good condition. What do you think? Should I save my money and get something else?

Default Could be a good deal

It is tough to say if it is a good deal. It all depends on the quality of the camera and the lenses. If the camera has too many actuations (Photos taken) and if the lenses are scratched or well worn, then I would say that it is too much to pay. I've seen D80's on Ebay go for $275-$400, with the higher priced ones coming with a lens or two. The macro lens sounds nice for sure. On the other lens, it is a bummer that there is no VR on the lens. That is a great feature. Especially, on the top end (135mm). I have an 18-200 and I know that above 100mm that VR really comes in handy.

Good luck with the search!

Is this a better deal?:

Nikon D40 with 2000 actuations. Nikon Nikkor 18-55mm AF-S lens, as well as a Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm AF-S lens, Nikon hot grip, wall charger for hot grip, factory battery and charger, Nikon neck strap, Nikon Body Armour, Users manual, and a Samsonite worldproof camera bag.

First, Nikon does not make a grip for the D40. Second you did not include the price for this second option. The D80 is a much better camera, with a focus motor and many more controls - I would go that route.

For what it's worth, I recently purchased a used D80 for a bit more $ and no lenses and even at that, I've been very well pleased with it. It was practically in mint condition, though. I suspect visible wear would have brought the price down significantly. I feel its a camera with plenty of room for a learner to grow into, and a feature set that, even if you move on to bigger and better things, it'll still be a viable backup for years.
