Talking New D90 - what next

Hi,

First of all I would like to thank all the fellow members on the wonderful advise that was given to me when I first asked the question in September 09. Based on your advise, I decided to take the plunge and bought a D90 during Christmas. I will post some pictures (once I work out how to) soon.

I have bought a D 90 with the Kit (18 -105mm ) lens. What I would like to ask is what should be the next things on my 'To Buy' list camera bag, tripod, filter, prime lens. I am thinking of buying a good bag and tripod first before anything else.

Any suggestions.....

Regards
Prarthan

Get a protection lens to protect your lens from scratches. The UV or ultra violet lens will do. In my case i use a Polarizing filter when i do daytime shots and shift to the UV or plain crystal lens at night.

Hi Richard,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have already got a lens hood which came alongwith the camera. I agree with your suggestion about UV filter. As regards to a bag, any suggestion on a good one which holds the camera and looking at future 1 or 2 lenses and a tripod + some general travel stuff......

Regards
PShah

I love my KATA 3N1-20. It's very flexible, can be used as a left or right sling bag or a backpack and I can switch it quickly. Fits my camera, 3 lenses, rain bag, reflector, and all the little things like charger, extra memroy cards, filter (in a case) and I still have room for another lens and a storage area up top for my day supplies like water, sunscreen etc. All wrapped in plastic in case they leak of course.

It wasn't cheap but not that much more than many of the LowPro bags I looked at and way more configurable. Plus it's the only sling bag I found that will work for lefties and when you get tired converts into a backpack.

Before you buy anything else, I'd recommend going out to shoot. Figure out the limitations of your gear, and then make your buying decision based on your own experiences. I could tell you what I would buy, but those recommendations would be based on what I like to shoot, and the specific problems I was trying to solve with my purchases. If you already know what limitations you encounter when you shoot, then you'll get better advice if you explain what problems you're having so people can suggest the appropriate tools to help you solve those problems. At the very least, you'll want to tell us what you like to, or want to shoot, as the high priority items for a nature photographer are going to be different from someone who shoots sports or portraits.

Or, alternatively, the 35mm f/1.8.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I hate the 35/1.8. It feels cold.
