Default Best Wide Angle Lens for D700

I'm interested in purchasing a wide angle lens for the D700. I do portrait and wedding photography.

Any strong recommendations?

14-24 2.8

Don't go back. It's the best lens of all time. Seriously. Even Canon users use it.

WA for portrait and wedding: 24 f/1.4 or 35 f/1.4
UWA: 14-24 f/2.8

IF money is an issue I really like my Sigma 12-24, not as fast as the Nikon, but about 1/2 to 1/3rd the price

i used a 5Dmk2 +24-70 and it's crazy-wide @24mm.

I think 24mm is wide enough for most portraits and the DOF @ f/1.4 shines over the conventional f/2.8.

At 24mm, is there much of a difference between f/1.4 and f/2.8? 2 stops more light, but I don't imagine it being too much shallower...

I agree the best wide angle for the d700 and portraiture is probably either the 24 1.4 or the 35 1.4 . The 24 1.4 is an excellent lens, beautiful bokeh at wide angle

Not the best photography, but here's a couple samples of the depth at, 2 and 1.4 respectively, It's plenty shallow

14-24 is not a bad choice, it can be difficult to control the wide angular distortion with ultrawide and people though. 24 is already pretty wide with portraiture.

From the samples I have seen so far, 24 f/1.4G still able to give us that 3D pop @ f/1.4.

I think we have to look at the microcontrast as well in additon to DOF.
