Default 35mm 1.8 & 50mm 1.8

I currently own the 35mm 1.8 and my friend is selling her 50mm 1.8... Is there that much difference in the two lenses for me to own both? Opinions?

Image quality is pretty much the same. You will not see much different in the distortion / compression either since the 2 focal lenght are really close. The 50mm may be better for portrait since you get more reach (ie: music show). It depends on your style, I like 35mm better and I don't really have a need for the 50mm.

Which Nikon camera body are you using? The 50mm 1.8 won't autofocus on certain models.
