The D3100 is 100 better.

Have you done NO research? A quick side-by-side comparison will tell you. Hell, the MODEL number will. If you're going to ask a question on the forums, at least have some kind of background information. This is almost insulting.

Have you thought about buying a good used Camera like the D300 ?
Nikon D300 Body Only - 12k Clicks - Excellent! On e-bay
Nikon D300 Body Only - 12k Clicks - Excellent! on eBay.ca (item 330506578797 end time 19-Dec-10 15:43:05 EST)

Then you can start off with a semi-professional body for almost the same $$ then as you grow your skills you wont have to upgrade as fast and when you finally get the the latest greatest D8000
you can use the D300 as a backup body

Sounds to me like you just insulted someone asking for help in making a decision. You started at the bottom yourself, right? Who did you ask for help? Instead of deriding someone who needs help, try giving the benefit of your "experience", and help guide them along the way.

This forum seems to be full of your type, and for that reason, i'm going elsewhere... cretin!

I did start at the bottom, but I didnt pop onto a thread on the boards and arbitrarily mention two almost identical bodies with no other information. I did my own research, asked a few friends and then asked around for more detailed information.

I'm not insulting anyone. I asked a valid question. Nowhere in my post did i insult anyone or call anyone names. Which is more than I can say for yours. Cretin.

If you plan to shoot video the D3100 is the obvious choice.
It gives more megapixels whch really isnt a huge deal, but the pixels per square CM is significant.
THe sensor in the 3000 is a CCD and athe 3100 went to a CMOS. Resolution is a bit higher on the 3100 but thats a given with the more megapixels.

Osmosis, lets either be a bit more helpful or a bit more scarce.
