Default Sigma 12-24mm

Hi there,

I am interested in getting the Sigma 12-24mm for my Nikon D700. Nikon's 14-24mm is just out of my budget.I have read a lot reviews which some says it good, some says it not so good. It's super wide angle & the only drawback is that u can't fit a filter to it.I have seen some reviews with photos which looks pretty good to me. If anyone there have been using the Sigma, would appreciate your feedback.

I am also looking into getting a Voigtlander Color Skopar 20mm f/3.5 SL-II Aspherical (Prime Lens)? Some good review.

Tks

I have that lens and I like it quite a bit.
To me a super wide is something of a special tool...I'm not using it for architecture so I don't mind some distortion (which is normally unnoticeable and always easily fixable). You can't put filters on the Nikon either so that's a wash.

(Actually, you *can* use a cokin filter system with both)

I was about to mention the cokin system for these lenses too. When shooting landscapes and such I find using square cokin (and cokin style) filters work better than a circular one anyway. After using a square ND grade on a Cokin system, theres so much control. that I think it would be the better way to go in general.

have you considered Tokina...one of their latest, but still hard to get out of stock ~$850. Plus constant F/2.8 available over the range

That is a very nice piece of glass. What I like to tell people is never discredit 3rd party lenses, Sigma, Tamron and even the occasional Tokina are all good choices.

Many Tks Guys. I will get the Sigma & i was also interested in getting the Cokin Filter system. I only worry it might be too cumbersome.

Do you need that 12-14 focal length? If you can, go a little narrower and get the 16-35 f/4 VR.

The difference between 12 and 16mm is huge on a FF sensor....just saying.

I loved my Sigma 10-20 HSM on my DX bodies, and just recently added the 12-24 for my D700 and love it.

That's what i read. The 12-24 & 16-35 is totally different. Unfortunately , i have to shoot to tell the difference.
