Default Help with buying lens

I am looking to buy a lens for my Nikon D50. I would need this mostly for Portraits as well as some street photography. Also any cost estimate would be very helpful

Thanks in advance

Nikon 85mm f/1.8D, $430 from B&H. Of course, if youve got the cash, spring for the f/1.4D

I too have been wondering about the same lens question. Is the Nikon 85mm preferable to the Tamron 90mm for these purposes?

Which Tamron 90mm? The only one im aware of is the f/2 Macro, and at that point it'd be an interesting discussion. The Tamron does have the macro function, and its sharp, but I cant speak directly to it's overall quality. The big draw with the Nikon lenses in this case is the bokeh, which is superb.

I was thinking about the TAMRON 90MM F2.8 DI NIKON MACRO II(MOTOR) as a lens that could be used for portrait and macro work but I'm sure its bokeh wouldn't compare with the Nikon 1.8

You'd also be 1 1/3 stops slower.

Hands down, the Nikon 85mm f1.8. Awesome portrait lens. Even better, the Nikon 105mm, but they're a lot more expensive.
