Default Counting Clicks

I see many posts regarding "counting clicks" on digital cameras.
My question is: How do you do that and/or find that information?

I have a Nikon D40.

Thanks,
Larry

I use EXIFViewer (for Mac): Simple EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X

Also good: Jeffrey's Exif viewer

I'm not so sure about the latter, but the first one won't work with RAW files. You're looking for a field called "actuations"

Doesnt always work, though, as my D80 was giving me erroneous readings.

Yeah, most dedicated EXIF programs should be able to tell you the shutter actuation value. Unfortunately, this isn't always accurate, because it can be reset (or not) during maintenance.

Thanks for the info.

My D40, according to ShutterCount, has 12,755 actuations.

I was hoping I could find Actuations in the data in Adobe Bridge CS4, which I use.

Again, many thanks.

For some cameras you can upload a SOOC jpeg to Flickr, then read down through the EXIF data and you will find a field that says "Shutter Count". (Must be SOOC, no processing.)
