Hi,
I've had my D5000 for a few weeks now and I have noticed in quiet situations if I half-press the shutter I can hear a gentle click inside the machine, something like the mirror lock mechanism engaging ready to shift the mirror. When I release it (without taking a picture) after a second or two it clicks again like it is relaxing whatever it was that clicked into place. It is a little disconcerting and I wondered if any other D5000 owners have noticed this or if I have a faulty model or have worked something loose inside? Appreciate your thoughts. Tom |

Nope: It's VR.
VR makes a very slight hissing noise on some of the higher-end lenses, but on the 18-55 you can hear a distinct click when it comes on and off. It just means VR is activated.
