Default 35mm f1.8 motor

Howdy,

So like lots of other folks I splashed out today and got the Nikkor 35mm f1.8 AF-S. Loving it so far. Depth of field! Bokeh! No flash in dim rooms! However, one thing I have noticed is that the AF motor seems noisier (louder I guess) than the 18-55mm kit lens. It's most noticeable when it has trouble autofocusing and so goes through the full focus range. Is this normal?

Hmm- I just tried both my 18-55mm and my 35mm (set them both to infinity and hand them focus to close-focus distance), and the 35mm is definetly louder, but I'd honestly never noticed that before.

I'd bet it has something to do with the fact that it's internal focus, which causes air to get pumped around inside the lens.

Yeah, I think it may have been that I was just in a really quiet room at the time.
